Dataset description

Secondary particulate matter, resulting from chemical reactions of NH3, NOx and SO2 in the air, is the main component of PM2.5. Second and third place is the “other” fraction (e.g. water and mineral matter bound to particulate matter) and organic mass. The chemical composition (= ‘chemkar’) varies relatively little over the years. In cities, PM2.5 contains more basic carbon and organic mass, mainly due to traffic and building heating.
