digital vector dataset of the analogue Soil Map of Belgium for the territory of Flanders. All map elements of the analogue maps (published on map scale 1: 20 000) have been carefully digitised manually and provided with a code, in accordance with the classification system used: morphogenic for indoor Flanders (substrate, texture class, Drainage class, profile development group, phase and variant) and geomorphological for the Coastal Region (substrate, series, subseries, type, subtype and variant). The digital version of the soil map has been checked almost systematically against the analogue soil maps. The polygons were coloured as on the analogue bottom map. Where available for each soil type, the general characteristics (Van Ranst E. and Sys C., 2000) and photographs of a representative soil profile and representative environments are displayed. Finally, there is the possibility for each polygon to call up the scan of the analogue bottom map sheet, the explanatory booklet and the basic maps on a scale of 1:5000. This dataset is divided into 5 layers when published in the Soil Explorer because of the visualisation: soil types, substrates, phases, variants of the parent material and profile development. The map layer with the bottom types also contains all the attributes of the other card layers. The soil map was updated in June 2017 with some military domains and a unibottom type for the classfication of the soap soldiers and several errors were improved.
