The forest age map (1771-2001) combines the data of the following 4 maps:1. The Ferraris cards (made up between 1771 and 1778)2. The maps of Vandermaelen (made up between 1846 and 1854)3. The 3 rd edition of topographic maps at 1:20,000 (most of them was made between 1910 and 1940)4. The current afforestation according to forest mapping, version 2001.On these 4 maps only the distinction was made between forest and non-forest. The forest age map is used optimally on a scale of 1/50,000. The map is suitable for landscape studies, ecosystem visions etc. but less for detailed studies (management plans, EIAs, etc.). ). It may give a first impression of forest history in such cases, but it is strongly recommended to look at as much historical map material as possible in order to address the limitations of the forest age map, i.e. the geographical inaccuracy and the limited number of sources.
