The ‘Warmtekaart Vlaanderen 2019’ was commissioned by the Flemish Energy and Climate Agency to implement the EU Directive 2012/27/EU on energy efficiency and the Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001. The main products are maps for 2019 for the territory of Flanders showing the heat demand of large consumers and small consumers, results at the level of municipalities and statistical sectors, maps of existing and planned heat networks and finally locations of potential heat supply points. The study was conducted by VITO in cooperation with the distribution system operator Fluvius. You can consult the accompanying report here: https://www.energiesparen.be/warmtekaart The heat demand density per municipality expresses the total heat demand per municipality in relation to the length of the paved roads as defined in the map layer Road connections of the GRB. The heat demand per municipality was created by combining the exact heat demand of all small consumers with the exact heat demand of the large consumers connected to the Fluvius network. For the other large consumers (from the IMJV reporting), the heat demand was estimated on the basis of the known range. The heat demand has been calculated on the basis of Fluvius gas and electricity consumption data, the gas consumptions in the IMJV reporting and estimates of average biomass and fuel oil consumption from the Energy Balance. In addition, for consumers connected to the Fluvius network, this map layer also includes municipal figures on electricity consumption, gas consumption, number of EANs for electricity and gas and finally an estimate of the share of households with a fuel oil/biomass plant. For more background information, please refer to the report of the heat map.
