The map contains as complete an inventory as possible of landslides visible in the landscape in a study area located west of Brussels, in the south of the provinces of West Flanders, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant. It concerns both very old landslides integrated into the landscape of post-glacial origin and relatively young landslides with the date of initiation (sometimes approximate). The “young” landslides may arise within a larger, old landslide (local reactivation) or on an unaffected (not affected by landslide) location. Most ground shifts are still subject to movement, visible to, for example, skewed trees. The mapping of the ground shifts was done through a combination of terrain prospection and analysis of shadow maps derived from the digital height model based on laser scanning or LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging); OC GIS-Flanders, 2005).
