This map shows the actual land use for each 10 m-cell within the Flemish Region, for reference year 2016. The concept of land use refers to the actual use of land for specific human activities such as housing, industry and services, recreation,...or crops such as arable crops, grass growing,...or natural vegetation, such as forest, bushes, etc. The actual land use of a site is obviously not necessarily identical to the legal-planological destination of this site. Land may be used as residential areas but effectively used as grassland or arable land. This map does not contain information about the planological destination. The actual land use, as shown on this map, has been compiled on the basis of the 4 data levels of the ‘land use file 2016’. In particular, this is done through a combination and aggregation of a number of categories from the different data levels of this land use file. This geodata layer was replaced in 2021 by a reworked version for condition 2016, in order to remain in line with the adjusted methodology used in the layout of state 2019. For more details about the creation of the underlying ‘land use file’ (with 4 data levels) and the composition of this resulting land use map, reference is therefore made to the technical report ‘Landuse and space seizure in Flanders, condition 2019’, which can be found at https://archief-algemeen.omgeving.vlaanderen.be/xmlui/handle/acd/449392
