Map of Landscape Characteristics

The landscape characteristics map is the result of the additional inventory of spatial landscape features of above-local importance in Flanders. The spatially structured landscape features and features are both physical (relief, hydrography,...), biotic (plants, shrubs, trees, crops,...) or human (disposal geography, landtake and colonisation, living and work, agriculture and industry, traffic and transport,...) nature. The term “spatially structuring landscape feature” is operationalised by 3 criteria: the characteristic has an influence on the structure, spatial configuration due to its presence; it is visually dominant and it has a beacon function; it is typically orientating for a particular region. The mapping of the key landscape features has been carried out on map scale 1: 50 000.
