The nursing home (RM) is ‘the establishment, whatever the name, intended for the accommodation of elderly people who are habitually resident there and benefit, depending on their dependency, from family, household, life support and nursing or paramedical services’.
The nursing home (MRS) is ‘the nursing home which falls within the scope of Article 5 of the Law of 27 June 1978 amending the legislation on hospitals and relating to certain other forms of care provision’, i.e. that which organises ‘the provision of a package of care to shorten or avoid hospital stay’.
Note for interpretation:
The number of ‘rest home’ beds (‘MR’ beds) and the number of ‘rest homes and care’ beds (‘MRS’ beds) are measures of supply at any given time in a territory of the entity.
The available beds are not necessarily all occupied and not all occupied beds are occupied by elderly people.
In addition, the same bed may have been occupied successively by several people during the year.
Finally, the offer of beds in a communal territory is not strictly reserved for the inhabitants of the entity.
The same establishment may have several types of beds (MR, MRS, short stay...).
