An overview of the areas, located in Flanders, in which a management agreement for Natura 2000 species (gray chick, grey clawier, quail king and hamster) can be concluded, as provided for by Ministerial Decree.Natura 2000 is a European network of protected natural areas designated under the Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive. The Birds Directive and the Habitats Directive are EU directives that specify which species and habitats (biotopes for species) should be protected by the Member States. Within protected natural areas, Member States must achieve certain targets for the benefit of biodiversity (conservation objectives). The objective is to stop the loss of plant and animal species by 2020 and to recover as much as possible.In this context, the following management agreements are possible: construction and maintenance of a lucerne strip, hamster-friendly after-breeding, construction and maintenance of a lucerne strip of bird field, mixed grass strip of bird lawn. The farmer receives an annual fee for this for five years.Management areas for Natura 2000 species are part of the species protection management areas. The management areas for the management objective of species protection are defined on a proposal from the Institute for Nature and Forest Research (INBO) on the basis of the latest available monitoring data.
