This map indicator shows an estimate of the number of inhabitants per hectare, adjusted by statistical sector. The population dataset describes the location and number of inhabitants per address using a point file. This file is created by Information Flanders (AIV) on the basis of data from the Rijksregister. The locations of the addresses are determined by a geocoding of the addresses based on CRAB (CRAB population version 0.1). The total number of inhabitants in Flanders according to this number of points is a slight underestimation compared to the actual number of inhabitants in Flanders as reported by the FPS Economy. This deficiency can be explained by the fact that the linking of the addresses from the National Register to CRAB could not be fully executed (missing or unknown addresses in CRAB). For this difference, the dataset is corrected at the level of the statistical sectors based on statistics on the number of inhabitants per Statbel statistical sector. For this purpose, the sum of the population is first made based on the inhabitants per address point per sector. Then the factor of this sum is calculated relative to the reported number of inhabitants by Statbel. This factor is then applied to all population points. For example, if 5 % less inhabitants are calculated in a given sector on the basis of the population of points per address point compared to statistics, the number of inhabitants will be increased by 5 % at each point location. This corrected point stock is then rescaled to a resolution of 1 ha by making for each hectare cell the sum of the corrected number of inhabitants per address.
