The map contains the planned and realised fragmentation projects on (west) roads in Flanders. Such projects respond to fragmentation through road infrastructure. Habitats and migratory routes of indigenous fauna are reconnected by fragmentation measures. These can be very visible, for example in the form of ecoducts, but also less striking, such as eco-divers or eco tunnels with an accompanying grid. Since September 2020, the Flemish government has been working on such projects with a well-founded multi-annual programme, namely the ‘Flemish Action Programme Ecological Dispersion (Vapeo) — Part I (Wegen)’. It establishes the cooperation between the Agency for Roads and Transport (AWV), the Environment Department (doMg) and the Agency for Nature and Forests (ANB) for the financing and implementation of fragmentation projects. The Institute for Nature and Forest Research (INBO) provides scientific support.
