Renewable Energy Atlas Flanders — Additional potential energy production from ground-coupled heat pumps — technical scenario

This map layer is part of the Renewable Energy Atlas Flanders. In this technical scenario, the theoretical, technical maximum with regard to the additional production potential for ground-coupled heat pumps is estimated. This defines the available space within which the technology can be used to produce energy. This demarcation is achieved through a combination of positive and negative spatial conditions. We limit ourselves here to the non-built area of the built-up area which excludes the protection areas for water extraction areas, inaccessible gardens and areas that already have a ground-coupled heat pump. For the estimation of the production potential, use is made of the Database Underground Flanders and figures from Terra Energy. For more background information, refer to the report. The hotspots in Flanders are presented with a filtered picture of the results. The figures per municipality can also be consulted in the attached table.
