Statistical classification of Products by Activity in the European Economic Community, 2008

Description: The CPA is the European version of the CPC and has the same objectives. However, while the CPC is only a recommended classification, the application of the CPA in the Community is mandatory. In addition, the classifications for specific surveys are linked to the CPA, provided that the CPA is not itself used as such. Although the CPA is the European counterpart to the CPC, it is distinguished not only by its greater detail, but also in terms of structure. It is considered at European level that a central product classification should be organised according to the criterion of economic origin. Naturally, the structure and thus the definition of the economic activities of NACE Rev.2 serves as a basis. The link to the economic activities according to NACE Rev.2 provides the CPA with a structure that is symmetrical at all levels with that of NACE Rev.2.
