Total basic level of provision — situation 2015

This map indicates, for each location in the Flemish and Brussels-Capital Regions, the total basic level of provision on a scale of 0 to 1, as a result of the calculation of the proximity (according to specified parameters) of basic facilities and this for reference year 2015. Basic services are facilities necessary to organise daily life and participate in social life. Examples include: a kindergarten and primary school, childcare, general practitioner, pharmacy, food shop, postal point and (public) meeting rooms inside and outside. The calculation is based on the location of the individual basic facilities and then determines which 1-ha-cells are located within walking or cycling distance of the totality of the basic facilities. In several steps (1) the basic facilities are aggregated into a content-technically processable set, (2) weighted according to their number in the vicinity, and (3) distance-weighted. In order to select and aggregate the basic provisions, a total of 50 different types of provisions were taken into account, divided into four types: education, culture and sport, care and housing support facilities. The facilities in Brussels were supplemented, where possible, by information from the Territorial Development Agency (ATO, 2010).
