These maps are grid maps (grids) that represent the average thermal conductivity in Flanders over 100 m depth, up to the solid rock or to the jagged depth. For the estimation of thermal conductivity, it was decided to use the HCOV model. The methodology applied divides the different hydrogeological layers into a certain number of categories according to the soil type of which the layer mainly consists. A realistic mean value for thermal conductivity was assigned to each category on the basis of literature data. These values were further tested by means of a calibration using more than 15 available TRTs, carried out randomly in Flanders in the context of real construction projects.
