The digital atlas of Denmark’s historically administrative geography is a historical and geographical data collection of Denmark’s administrative division from around 1660 to the present. The data collection consists of 72 different types of authority, each varying in time, space and language. Over rural districts from longevity to regions and large municipalities in the 21th century.
Based on approximately 10.000 digitised Owners, a polygon corresponding to the authority’s geographical scope for a given time has been calculated for each administrative authority. In addition to ownership, parishes, municipalities, counties and men are examples of administrative units. The research infrastructure is managed by the National Archives, which owns the dataset.
The DigDag-database has incorporated historical information in the map. In other words, it can be seen how place names and areas of coverage of the authorities have evolved over the last 350 years.
The card serves as a tool for research, archives and libraries. This makes it easier to compare data between municipalities and regions. The card helps to understand how Danish society has evolved over time.
The data collection consists of 3 types of data:
(1) The core of the data collection is 72 different types of authority, each varying in time, space and language. Over rural districts from longevity to regions and large municipalities in the 21th century.
(2) Therefore, almost 300.000 place names, with historical variations of place names, make up almost one million place names.
(3) Finally, geography is the third and final vital part of DigDag.
