Dataset description

The MFVM reports bathing water information annually to the EU. The data sets are a point theme of measuring stations and bathing water quality results. The data set is collected in accordance with the current Order: Order No 917 of 27/06/2016 Applicable, Date of publication: 30-06-2016, Ministry of Environment and Food Link: https://www.retsinformation.dk/Forms/R0710.aspx?id=181956 The Order has been drawn up on the basis of the EU Directive: “Directive 2006/7/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 February 2006 concerning the management of bathing water quality and repealing Directive 76/160/EEC.” The Directive provides, inter alia, as follows: • Member States shall draw up a list of all bathing waters each year and determine the length of the bathing season. .... • For each bathing water, a timetable for monitoring the municipal council shall be drawn up before the start of each bathing season. . • Member States shall ensure that bathing water quality data are established on the basis of monitoring of parameters: Intestinal enterococci (cfu/100 mL) and Escherichia coli (cfu/100 mL). • Member States shall submit to the Commission the results of monitoring and assessment of bathing water quality for each bathing water and an explanation of important management measures taken. Member States shall submit this information by 31 December of each year for the previous bathing season. .... • The municipal council shall take for examination for intestinal enterococci and Escherichia coli at least 4 samples of the bathing water in connection with each bathing season. .... • The Commission shall publish an annual summary report on the quality of bathing water in the Community, setting out, inter alia, classifications of bathing water, compliance with the requirements of this Directive and important management measures taken. The Commission shall publish this report by 30 April each year, including on the internet. .... The bathing water report prepared by the Commission also contains a “ranking” of the Member States in relation to the bathing water quality of the Member States. At the same time as the annual bathing water report is published, the EU also publishes an annual current interactive bathing water map of all Member States’ bathing water sites, bathing water results and bathing water classifications. This map can be found on the EU bathing water portal. Link for the latest interactive bathing water maps from EU/v. EEA: http://www.eea.europa.eu/themes/water/interactive/bathing/state-of-bathing-waters According to the Order, the practical collection of data and responsibility for any pollution control is the responsibility of the municipalities. MFVM receives from the municipalities information on the location of bathing sites (coordinate set and name of bathing site), measurement results, etc. and annually reports this information to the EU by 31 December at the latest. The Order provides, inter alia, as follows: • The municipal council supervises the bathing water in order to determine the quality of bathing water and to ensure that the water is not polluted and in accordance with Sections 4 and 5 to take samples of the water for further examination. • The municipal council supervises that no pollution occurs in the bathing area. • The municipal council shall designate as a monitoring site the place in the bathing area where the most bathers are expected or where there is the greatest pollution risk according to the bathing water profile. • The Municipal Council shall draw up a monitoring plan for each bathing water in accordance with Annex 4 and send it to the Environmental Protection Agency no later than 1 April. Reporting shall be made in a format established by the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, where necessary, samples shall be taken for the purpose of delimiting known sources of pollution, such as ports, effluents and estuary of watercourses. • The Municipal Council draws up a list of all inspection monitoring sites each year and sends it to the Environmental Protection Agency no later than 1 April. Reporting shall be made in a format established by the Environmental Protection Agency. • The Municipal Council shall report once a year to the Environmental Protection Agency no later than 1 November the results of the investigations carried out.
