Drilling protection areas (BNBO) have legislative suspensions in Section 11 of the Water Supply Act.
BNBO is an administratively defined protection zone based on a specific calculation. The zone is intended for all general water wells belonging to general water supplies for drinking water purposes.
BNBO reflects the zone around an abstraction drilling where the groundwater table is lowered when the water plant pumps the groundwater. The size of the area where a funnel effect occurs depends on many local conditions. The calculations are based, among other things, on information on how much water is extracted, as well as which soil layers are around the drilling and how fast the water flows through the layers.
The data set contains municipal and state-determined BNBOs.
Historical data can be obtained from groundwater mapping, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
