Map Supply Geo Web Services is a series of web services that can return information about geographic objects such as roads, addresses, landowners, land parcels, parishes and municipalities. This information includes, among other things, the geographical extent/position of the objects, the relation of road names to road code, the relation of municipality names to the municipality number. In addition, the Map Supply® Geo Web Services 1.0.0 are also methods for transforming coordinates from one coordinate system to another. The returned geographic ranges/positions can then be combined with WMS/WFS services, e.g. from Map Supply® to display the respective returned object(s) on a map.
You can access the Geokeys via the Internet. This makes it easier to develop solutions that integrate both maps and e.g. addresses from Map Supply®. This document contains information on how to use the Geokeys.
Web Services are very easy to implement in development environments — especially the.Net platform has integrated the use of web services in a good way. Where the old geokeys had to create an instance of a network connection, after which the answer from a query had to be read and manipulated, web services are much easier.
In addition, the information is also improved. For many of the objects, e.g. a municipality, a cadastral, a road and an owner’s lichen, its geographical extent in the form of a Minimum Bounding Rectangle (MBR) is also part of the information. This means that you can then display a map with an extent in which the object, e.g. the road with certainty, is included. With the old geokeys, the information about the object contains either no geographical position or a position in the form of a point. The problem with the latter is that one subsequently never knew whether the whole object was shown on the map, because the extent of objects e.g. cadastrals varies greatly.
