The map presents a High Nature Value (HNV) indicator for Denmark, which identifies the agricultural areas that contain the highest biodiversity values.
The concept of “High Nature Value (HNV) Farmland” was developed by the European Environment Agency and addresses agricultural land that supports a high level of biodiversity. Areas with a distinctly high nature value are often characterised by low-intensity farming, semi-natural vegetation and habitats for protective species.
The indicator is based on data on the distribution of biodiversity in the open country, compared with information on landscape parameters and agricultural farming. Data on biodiversity have been collected partly by authorities and partly by volunteers who have recorded species observations in publicly available databases.
The HNV indicator was developed by DCE v. Aarhus University for the Danish Agricultural Agency.
