English:
The designation has been implemented in Danish legislation by Order No 408 of 1 May 2007 on the designation and administration of international nature conservation areas as well as the protection of certain species, as amended.
A Community bird conservation area is one of three types of international nature conservation areas: Community bird protection areas, Community habitat areas and Ramsar areas. The former two are collectively referred to as Natura 2000 sites. The habitats of many bird species deteriorate or are directly threatened. Bird protection areas help to maintain and safeguard habitats. In Denmark, the areas are especially important for many waterbirds. Each area has been designated to protect certain bird species. The site is based on the 1979 Birds Directive, which aims to protect and improve the conditions of wild bird species in the EU. This is done, among other things, by the creation of bird protection areas by the Member States. The Directive also contains provisions on which bird species may be hunted and which hunting methods may be used.
