The theme shows the nitrogen reduction potential from root zone to water body expressed in per cent. The reduction potential was used together with the mapping of catchment areas for vulnerable and highly vulnerable Natura 2000 areas for the determination of nitrate classes in accordance with the Animal Authorisation Order, in the livestock regulation in force until 1 March 2017.
The map is an update of the historical map of the same name and contributed to updating the professional basis of the Nitrate classes. The professional basis that the card represents is still part of the regulation of where in the country additional livestock catch crops are to be established. This regulation now takes place as part of the fertiliser accounts.
In connection with the publication on the Danish Area Information in September 2016, the map is divided into 3 retention classes (0-50 % retention, 51-75 % retention and 76-100 % retention) instead of the original 5.
The reduction potential map was prepared by Aarhus University in 2015. Methodology and professional background are described in the report: National nitrogen model
