Geographical extent of the marine biogeographical regions to which Denmark belongs. Data from the European Environmental Agency, EEA. The designation of habitat areas is coordinated by the EU. In this context, the EU has been subdivided into 11 biogeographical
regions (seven terrestrial regions and four marine regions). The regions are intended to be delimited, so that within a region there is a large community between the countries in relation to the presence of species and habitat types. Denmark belongs to two biogeographical terrestrial regions — the Atlantic region and the Continental region — and two biogeographical marine regions — the Marin Atlantis region and the Marine Baltic region. The border between the two terrestrial regions follows the Jutland ridge. While the border between the marine regions runs from Djursland to Sjællands Odde and by the Øresund Bridge.
