The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Health and Consumer Protection sought to poll consumers' attitudes and experiences on cross-border transactions, as well as their views on certain consumer protection measures.
Interviews were conducted face-to-face in people’s homes in their national language between February 20 and March 24, 2006.
For each theme addressed, our analysis looks at the:
• European Union as a whole;
• Individual countries;
• Socio-demographic variables;
• Other variables, which are systematically cross-tabulated with the results for each question, include:
compared to domestic providers,
is a greater risk of scam or fraud,
it is harder to trust in the safety of goods and services when purchasing from providers located in other EU countries,
being not interested in cross-border shopping because of not having access to the Internet , as well as being not interested in making a cross-border transaction in the EU in the next 12 months.
