Special Eurobarometer 443: Public perception of illicit tobacco trade

The Eurobarometer survey (EBS 443) on the public perception of illicit tobacco trade was the first of its kind. The results show that EU citizens are concerned about the need to protect the revenues of Member States and the EU from the smuggling of cigarettes. It also reveals EU citizens' clear view that the price is what attracts them to buy black market cigarettes yet the survey also suggests that knowledge about the link between organised crime and the illicit trade of tobacco is low.
