Members of the European Economic and Social Committee

The EESC is made up of 350 members from 28 Member States. Members come from all social and professional backgrounds and are appointed by the Council, on the basis of proposals from the Member States, for a renewable five-year term of office, but they work independently for the EESC in the interests of all EU citizens. EESC members do not have permanent residence in Brussels; the majority continue to exercise their profession in their country of origin. Members are organised into three groups, Employers (Group I), Workers (Group II) and Various Interests (Group III), and their task is to submit opinions on topics of European interest to the Council, the Commission and the European Parliament.
