The AES product estimates the optical thickness for clear sky pixels over sea in the VIS0.6, VIS0.8 and NIR1.6 channels. In addition, the Angstrom coefficient is determined. The algorithm uses a method described by Ignatov, using pre-calculated tables to derive the relevant variables. Intermediate products are derived for every image containing information in the VIS channels. The disseminated product is a daily averaged product. Applications include numerical weather prediction, climate research and monitoring.
