This visualization is composed of a 3-hourly imagery of RGB Fog/Low Clouds products from different geostationary satellites: Meteosat 0 Degree and Meteosat IODC, GOES-16 and GOES-17, Himawari-8.
Every single imagery composing the final product, is generated by assigning red, green and blue to imageries based upon infrared channel data from the following instruments:
- SEVIRI (Meteosat): IR12.0, IR10.8, IR3.9 channels.
- ABI (GOES-16 and GOES-17): IR12.4, IR10.4, IR3.9 channels.
- AHI (Himawari-8): IR12.4, IR10.4, IR3.9 channels.
This product is designed and tuned to monitor the evolution of night-time fog / low stratus. Other (secondary) applications are the detection of fires, low-level moisture boundaries and cloud classification in general. It should be noted that as the product is tuned for night-time conditions, its use during day-time is very limited.
