The Absorbing Aerosol Height (AAH) product retrieved from the GOME-2 instruments provides absorbing aerosol layer height information. For extreme aerosol events, such as the injection of volcanic ash into the atmosphere by a volcanic eruption, the height of the aerosol layer is an important input parameter for decision making in aviation safety. Other applications are climate research and air quality.
Note on GOME-2A pixel sizes: On 2013-07-15, the swath width of the instrument was reduced from 1920 km to 960 km. This means that the nominal ground pixel size changed from 80 x 40 km^2 to 40 x 40 km^2.
