On September 19th 2021, an eruption on the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge started southwest of La Palma, Canary Island, Spain. After 85 days of activity, it stopped on December 13th 2021 and the eruption was officially declared to have ended on December 25th, 2021. Over 7,000 people were evacuated and the lava flow covered an area of about 3.5 km at its widest point and 6.2 km long, affecting over 1,200 hectares. It reached the sea in two different locations forming two new peninsulas. During the eruption, approximately 3,000 buildings and 70 km of transportation infrastructure were destroyed. In this context, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service was activated to support the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the aim to generate updated high-resolution Digital Elevation Models (DEM) that show the recent changes caused by the volcanic eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano. The following products were generated in order to serve the purpose of the activation.DEM generation (P1) based on TanDEM-X CoSSC satellite image during the event on 22.11.2021 (T1).Post-event DEM generation (P1) based on optical tri-stereo satellite images on 31.12.2021 (T2) and 03.02.2022 (T3).Elevation change (P2) comparing each generated DEM with a pre-event DEM as well as calculating the elevation difference between the generated DEMs.Calculation of the thickness and volume of the lava flow (P3) comparing each generated DEM with a pre-event DEM as well as calculating the elevation difference between the generated DEMs. Time Average Discharge Rate (P04), showing the effusion rate of the eruption, was calculated between 22.11.2021, 31.12.2021, and the immediate pre-event situation. Additionally, the TADR was derived between 31.12.2021 and 22.11.2021.
