Dataset description

This shapefile shows the estimated flood protection level for each NUTS region in the entire EFAS domain. It is given as the estimated design return period of flood defences, that is, the return period of the maximum flood event which can be beard by the defence measures (e.g. dikes). It is assumed that any flood event above the protection level will cause flooding. This layer is provided in the EFAS interface as additional information for the EFAS user in order to be transparent on which flood protection level is presumed in EFAS at a given location. This is in particular important when looking at the flood event hazard map or the EFAS rapid risk assessment as those rely on the estimated flood protection level. Hence, the precision of those estimates determine the quality of other EFAS services / maps.
