On 22 March 2021, a major fire broke out in Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar. It is estimated that around 10 000 shelters were destroyed or damaged. In the first 24 hours, 15 fatalities were reported with 400 people still missing. The damage to vital infrastructure is extensive, with total destruction of health centres, hospitals, water infrastructure, distribution points, learning centres and other structures. Copernicus EMS Rapid Mapping has been activated for a situation assessment.
