On 12 August 2016, heavy rainfall started in Louisiana, sending area rivers toward historic crests and causing at least three fatalities and thousands of evacuated people. Many missing people have been also registered. The areas surrounding the cities of Batoun Rouge and Lafayette are the most affected. The rain is expected to continue for several days.
More than 24 inches of rain had fallen in some locations across the region by the morning of August 13th, and the state of emergency for the entire state of Louisiana has been declared.<br/>
