Several states in the Northwest of Brasil are particularly affected. As reported by the Brasilian space agency (INPE), there is an increase in the number of fires of 83 % in 2019, compared to the same period in the preceding year. More than 70.000 fires have been registered so far. Parts of Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay and Argentina are also affected.
