Humanitarian crisis in Herat, Afghanistan (2018-07-13)

A prolonged dry spell highly affected the availability of food and water in villages of origin. Mass displacement has started towards the main regional city Herat: fears are many more will follow having reportedly depleted all assets and protection means. The EU Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) is very concerned about the lack of basic needs and the high morbidity reported as well as the plight of those that are left in villages affected by the drought.
