A prolonged dry spell highly affected the availability of food and water in villages of origin. Mass displacement has started towards the main regional city Herat: fears are many more will follow having reportedly depleted all assets and protection means. The EU Directorate General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG ECHO) is very concerned about the lack of basic needs and the high morbidity reported as well as the plight of those that are left in villages affected by the drought. On 13 July DG ECHO activated the EMS Rapid Mapping Component to provide information for operational analysis in the field.

Reference products: 4
Delineation products: 18
Grading products: 0

Copernicus Emergency Management Service - Mapping is a service funded by European Commission aimed at providing actors in the management of natural and man-made disasters, in particular Civil Protection Authorities and Humanitarian Aid actors, with mapping products based on satellite imagery.
