This metadata refers to the Land Cover vector data generated over WAPOK (Africa) for 2017 in the framework of the Copernicus Global Land Hot Spot Mapping (C-GL-HSM) contract under the coordination of JRC.
This area of interest is either mapped with the generic 8 classes dichotomus legend (WAF_04_lc_a) or the detailed modular legend (WAF_04_lc_b).
The mapped area of interest (AOI) represents a Key Landscape for Conservation area (KLC). This transboundary KLC has a total size of almost 5.8 million ha (58,000 km²) and is situated between the countries of Ghana, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Niger. It includes several areas under protection grouped under the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex (WAPOK). The Oti-Kéran National Park and Oti-Mandouri fauna reserve in Togo are not directly part of the WAPOK Complex, however an existing plan is to integrate the Oti-Kéran / Oti-Mandouri Complex (OKM) with the WAPOK Complex in the context of ecosystems transboundary management.
