The objective of pastoral land associations is to maintain pastoral activity in all or part of their territory.
This layer encompasses the three types of AFP permitted by law (Law 72.12 of 03 January 1972):
— free AFPs, made up of voluntary owners,
— AFPs formed ex officio by preference (abandonment of land, natural hazards, etc.),
— authorised AFPs involving all owners as long as 50 % of them own more than 50 % of the surface area, wish
