Rendering consists of the collection and compulsory processing of dead animals (lots of more than 40 kg) and certain animal materials by an undertaking to which this task has been entrusted. Once run as a public service, this activity has been entrusted to the private sector since 2009 on the basis of a national invitation to tender with departmental lots. Article R 226-11 of the Rural Code obliges the prefect to inform the public of information enabling the undertaking responsible for rendering in a given territory to be reached without delay. Articles L226-1 et seq., R226-7 et seq. of the Rural Code define the public rendering service and how it is carried out. It is subject to a call for tenders and zoning may be interdepartmental
