The contract for the Baie de Fort-de-France and its catchment area was signed on 7 May 2010 for a period of 5 years and was extended for 2 years until May 2017. It is supported by CACEM (Community of Agglomeration of the Centre of Martinique).
The contract area is defined by a bay of approximately 70 km² extending over a coastal line of approximately 50 km, between Schœlcher in the north and Cape Solomon in the south. It also includes the watershed of the Bay of Fort-de-France, with an area of 345 km² or almost one third of the Martinique surface.
This catchment area covers the entire or partial territory of 16 municipalities with an interest in the use or sustainable development of the Bay of Fort de France. The population of the municipalities concerned is close to 290 000 inhabitants, or more than 75 % of the total population of the island.
