L'organisation des compétences actuelles en eau et assainissement fait suite à la Loi NOTRé de 2015 imposant un transfert des compétences aux structures intercommunales avant 2020. Depuis le mois d'aout 2016, cinq structures intercommunales assurent la compétence eau et assainissement en Guadeloupe. Ce sont les autorité organisatrices: - le syndicat Intercommunal d'alimentation en eau et assainissement de la Guadeloupe (SIAEAG); - la Communauté d'Agglomération Grand-Sud Caraïbes (CAGSC); - la communauté de Communes de Marie-Galante (CCMG); - la Communauté d'Agglomération de Cap Excellence; - la Communauté d'Agglomération du Nord Basse-Terre (CANGT).
