The built area is a fully-fledged layer that encompasses built-up areas and their surrounding environment. This layer is an element that allows us to focus on evolving areas, thus at stake from the point of view of spatial planning. It makes it possible to distinguish the spaces built, defined on a built basis, from natural, agricultural, forestry and unbuilt secluded landscapes. The IGN has developed an algorithm that allows it to be calculated from the land cover layer and in coherence (geometric and semantic) with the latter. This data corresponds to version 3.1 delivered in November 2019 which corrects the initial version delivered in March 2019.
