In France, a country may designate a project territory characterised by geographical, economic, cultural or social cohesion, for the development of country contracts within the meaning of the Law for the Guidance of Sustainable Development of the Territory known as the Voynet Law of 25 June 1999. The division and scale of project territories are close and sometimes inspired by the traditional countries or natural regions of France.
