The data standard covers some of the geographical areas delimited by the public authorities to ensure the protection of abstractions (whether or not land) intended for the supply of drinking water to populations. In response to the requirements of the Water Framework Directive, the Water and Aquatic Environments Act of 30/12/06 strengthened the mechanisms for controlling diffuse pollution of agricultural origin by the creation of protection zones for catchment areas. The implementation of this new resource protection system leads to the delimitation of catchment areas (AACs, sometimes also referred to as catchment areas) which include the catchment area or the catchment area. For groundwater, a common national AAFC delineation methodology has been proposed. At the right of the methodological guide produced, the supply basin of an underground catchment is defined as the location of the points on the surface of the soil that contribute to the feeding of the catchment. Some catchment foraging areas are identified as priorities within the Water Management and Management Master Plans (WMPs) and measurement programs. A AAFC is thus defined, after a technical study, as the area from which the water supplies a close catchment or several catchments. For this reason, it is proposed to include the AAFC identifier as one of the attributes of the data standard locating drinking water sampling points. The AAFC protection area is the result of the crossing of the mapping zoning of intrinsic vulnerability and zoning of agricultural pressures. In the case of surface water abstractions, the definition of a protection zone within the watershed upstream of the intakes is based on the identification of flows (slide, drainage, ditches, alluvial and river exchanges) and the identification, by territorial diagnosis, of agricultural pressures and areas likely to play the most important role in the degradation of the water resource. An AAFC Protection Area is thus defined by regulation, for an AAFC that includes one or more catchments, as a perimeter of actions to protect the drinking water resource from identified environmental issues.
