Following two studies of census and analysis of field movements carried out by the Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière (BRGM) in 2002 and 2004 in the arrondissements of Montdidier and Clermont and then of Compiègne and Péronne, the DDT de l’Oise wished to continue this process in 2008 in the districts of Senlis and Beauvais, extending it to the cavities as such. The Oise cavity census was updated in an October 2011 study.
In 2014, as part of a national programme to establish a database of field movements, the Ministry of Ecology commissioned the BRGM to complete the inventory of field movements.
These studies, aimed at collecting information from ground movements associated with underground cavities, aim to raise awareness among town halls and local stakeholders about the problem of underground cavities for better land management.
This cartily also indicates the degree of the retreat-swelling hazard of clay soils.
