Forage regions
This zoning, established by experts, is based on the division of France into 200 homogeneous agro-climatic zones from a grass-roots point of view.
This zoning is based on the zoning of the Prairies survey in 1982. Some of the “small forage regions” identified at that time were grouped together to obtain a basic geographical unit of at least 90,000 hectares. The forage region, with an average area of about 250,000 hectares, is the finest onbservation grid on which the results are returned.
In particular, this zoning is used as a dissemination step for short-term estimates of grass growth status during the agricultural companion (Permanent Grassland Yield — ISOP System).
