The General Code of Ownership of Public Persons (CGPPP) regulates the occupations of the public maritime domain. The CGPPP sets out the conditions for setting up beach concessions to balance the protection of the coastline and the provision of leisure which meets the public service of sea baths.
The Var has 6 artificially granted beaches, 70 natural granted beaches. It has also been listed about 184 ungranted beaches and natural coves.
Exploitation of the natural beach shall be permitted up to a limit of 20 % of the linear and 20 % of the surface and 50 % for the artificial beach. This calculation is made range by range. All facilities must be demountable and at the end of the concession, all beaches must be returned to the natural state.
Beach concessions are granted under the conditions laid down in Article L2124-4 of the CGPPP, by L321-9 of the Environmental Code and by L146-6 of the Urban Planning Code.
