Dataset Direct Download Service (WFS): Landscape typologies in Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur

The PACA region is of exceptional landscape wealth. A land of contrasts, it presents a mosaic of landscapes with a mountain and Mediterranean character: high mountain ranges to the north and east to the Mediterranean; succession of hills and plateaus of mainly calcareous massifs in the centre; valleys of the Rhône and Durance, large plains (Comtat, Crau, Camargue), ponds and large lakes; low-lying coastal plains to the east. These diverse landscapes have been shaped by wind, water and successive civilisations. Physical and climatic characteristics, variety of altitudes, climates and soils determine plant diversity: from larch to olive tree, from grassland to exotic plants. Landscapes are also the result of land use, habitat and farming patterns.
