The following are differentiated: — areas where predation on the domestic herd has been recorded one or more times in the last two years, called the “first circle”; — areas where preventive actions are required due to the possible occurrence of wolf predation during the current year, called the “second circle”. In order to limit attacks on domestic herds and to help breeders likely to face predatory presence, enhanced guarding, night grouping of animals and use of protective dogs is accessible in areas of risk defined annually by prefectural decree (measure 323 c1 of the hexagonal rural development programme). The level of this aid and the related commitments depend on the size of the herd and the duration of grazing in the eligibility area.
