In order to restore the balance between water needs and water resources, the Law on Water and Aquatic Environments of 30 December 2006 established the establishment of collective management of agricultural levies by granting a sampling authorisation to a “single body” on behalf of collectors. The task of this single body will be to allocate to the irrigants a maximum amount of sampling per hydrologically coherent elementary perimeter, including, where appropriate, management arrangements. Some of these areas have been subdivided to ensure administrative, hydrological or other consistency. These catchable volumes were agreed and notified by the Coordinating Prefect of the Adour-Garonne Basin in early 2012.
Irrigation sampling that takes place in canals (or in secondary canals, small streams or ditches themselves replenished by canals) may depend on an elementary perimeter different from the one on which they are located (lateral channel to the Garonne and Montech Canal, Saint Martory Canal system, etc.).
The Karst of the Charente basin is not mapped. It overlaps with several elementary perimeters. The volume of this aquifer is 7.5 Mm3, adjustable according to its filling levels.
