The restoration of the Selune River continuum after the dams will allow colonisation of the upstream basin of the previously inaccessible eels. Prior to the ailment, two main tributaries were used by amphihalin fish for breeding, in addition to the main course: the Beuvron and the Oir. The Selune Eel population was monitored in the pre-rasement phase by abundance index campaigns carried out in 2013, 2015, 2019 on a network of stations covering the entire Sélune hydrographic network. These data estimate the evolution of eel abundance along the Selune and its tributaries and their structure in size before and after dam destruction.
The inventory is carried out at the beginning of September, every second year, using an electrical fishing device and nets. Thirty fishing points of at least 30 seconds shall be carried out. A fishing station consists of approximately 100 metres of watercourse line. All eels caught are anesthetised and biometrically measured (weight, length, horizontal eye diameter, vertical, yellow or silver stage determination). All eels are released directly at the fishing site.
This layer contains individual data on captured eels.
